The small Lesser White-fronted Goose (Anser erythropus) was earlier a common bird in the mountains of North-Norway. Only 70 years back in time the population counted 2500-5000 pairs in Norway.
Today the Lesser White-fronted Goose is threatened with extinction. Only 15-20 pairs still breed in Norway.
The very drastic decline makes the Lesser White-fronted Goose Norway's most threatened bird species.
If the undertaken conservation measures do not succeed, this beautiful bird will disappear from the Norwegian nature in near future.
In the present exhibition we will inform more about the Lesser White-fronted Goose and the work carried out to save it form extinction.
The case of the Lesser White-fronted Goose is not unique. A large number of spescies are already threatened or extinct due to human activities. We will also here look closer at the significance of protecting natures variation - "biological diversity".
