Many different types of habitat give different terms of living for different communities of animals, plants and other organisms. A habitat with all its living inhabitants is called an ecosystem. Examples of different ecosystems are lakes, forests, seabird cliffs, seashore and wetlands.
Within Norway we have a large variety of habitats. This is because our country is rich in mountains, the distance between north and south is large, with a diverse geology. Many of the habitats occurring in Norway are rare elsevwhere in Europe, especially the arctic habitats. Norway is also rich in undisturbed habitats, for example wetlands, that are heavily reduced in Europe.
